Rob Stewart - Guitars, Cuatro, Vocals

Born in the Brisbane southern suburbs and raised on a steady diet of Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and B B King. I loved live music and took every opportunity to experience all the greatest performances from local national and international recording artists and performers. There was only one thing to do. Make sure my guitar was never more than an arm's length away.

The amazing thing about the guitar is you never stop learning and finding new things. It also leads you into other instruments, like the cuatro, which I fell in love with a few years ago. I have played with many other musicians from all styles and sounds. To name a favourite is like naming a favourite child. It's simply impossible. The constant in all music though is the songs. The great performers, singers, instrumentalists are all known for their songs as much as their artistry. In my own musical life its been the creativity that brings a song to life that really makes it my personal favourite thing. You can hear it in all classic songs, whether its a singer with a guitar or a symphony played by the Berlin Philharmonic. Everyone in tune with each other's notes and place in time.

On the 3 Miles From Texas recording you'll hear a lot of layering of the stringed instruments. The cuatro (I play the Puerto Rican version, there are many others in Latin and South American cultures), features for the first time for us, on this recording. It's a wonderful instrument with a unique sound and a joy to explore. The track "Carmen" was written as a feature tune for the cuatro and the solo is there as a tribute to its welcome place in our music.

The influences I have as someone who's grown through blues, jazz, folk and roots music are of such feeling for the musicians and writers who make our souls sing, that only the best will do. The recording took many many months of work to complete but at the final playback it all came up sparkling.

I hope you enjoy our record as much as I enjoyed being in the production seat and at the instruments.
